Earth Eaters, curated by Cole Projects, explores the use of dirt as a natural medium. Drawing on the relationship between philosophy and nature, the exhibition addresses the earth’s potential role in prevention of climate change and celebrates this vital substance that we take for granted.
As part of the exhibition, AVM Curiosities have created a new fragrant installation, titled ‘Petrichor’. Using scent as a storyteller, this aromatic offering draws on the contrast between our rural and urban landscapes to create a sense of olfactory escapism. The primary component is an aroma chemical known as Geosmin, which is naturally created by the bacteria found in soil. The scent is one that the human nose is particularly sensitive to, which conjurers up images of freshly turned earth or the first rain after a dry summer.
The exhibition also features works by: Sol Bailey-Barker, Natasha Bird, Charly Blackburn, Ebinum Brothers, William Cobbing, Kathryn Graham, Byzantia Harlow, Gregory Herbert, Timo Kube, Jane Lawson, Dunstan Low, Tasha Marks | AVM Curiosities, The Institute of Queer Ecology, Hannah Walton, Charlie Warde, Russell Webb, Trystan Williams and William York.
