Pleased to announce that for anyone who missed the live event at Leighton House Museum in November 2022 there is now a recording of the Oriental?! panel discussion available to purchase via the museum website.
In the fragrance world, “Oriental” is an official category of perfume that is distinguished by its warm, sensual notes. In the stunning setting of Leighton House, the panel explored this term, debated the importance of language and explored the uneasy border between appreciation and appropriation.
The talk was chaired by Tasha Marks (founder of AVM Curiosities), joined by artist and perfumer Ezra-Lloyd Jackson (Olfiction), Nadine Nour el Din (art historian and cultural practitioner), William Tullett (Associate Professor in Sensory History at Anglia Ruskin University) and Sanjoli Mathur (who investigates the impact of people’s cultural background on their experience of smells).
Please note that your ticket will give you access to three recorded sessions, hosted on the Leighton House YouTube channel and only available to ticket holders. Once you purchase the ticket, you will receive a link from the museum with access details. Please do not share this link with anyone else. Make sure to check your email junk / spam folders if you don't receive it promptly, and if you have any questions regarding access, you can get in touch with the museum via museums@rbkc.gov.uk.
