The Visible Artist | Episode 1
Tasha Marks | AVM Curiosities
How do you write a scent brief? What is the difference between a scent designer and a perfumier? How does one create a scent installation that will last for ten years? What is it like working with the conservation team at a leading museum? How do you evoke memories with scents so familiar that people are brought to tears?
Tasha Marks of AVM Curiosities is a golden example of why one should always take school careers guidance with a pinch of salt. Despite being advised not to follow a career in art, Tasha has taken much more than a pinch - she has turned her passion for salt, sugar and many more foodstuffs into a impressive career as a food historian, scent designer and artist. Working under the name of AVM Curiosities (‘animal - vegetable - mineral’), Tasha is now in high demand, with curators from institutions commissioning site-specific interventions within historic houses and scent sculptures for permanent collections. She brings her passion for scent, historical expertise, love of telling stories and sense of humour to every project - and now has created a fascinating portfolio of sensory artworks and interventions.
